Maddox was born on 3 February, 2351. He was raised for most of his life on Earth in Cardiff, Wales, where he lived with his father, Ianto Aerulain, a professor at the university nearby. By the time he was three, it was obvious that he would be taking after his Caadinain mother for his looks, rather than his human father, and was sent away for seven years to the USS Starvling to stay with his mother, the ACMO.
When she was killed on an away mission when he was ten, he returned to Cardiff to finish his schooling with his father. By this time he was fluent in Caadinain and English, and his father taught him Welsh so that he could fit in better with human speakers of the language at the university. Even at this young age, with so many changes in his life, he sought to control some aspect of his life. Eventually turning to perfecting his body, he was easily more fit than most of the college students his father taught at the age of fifteen, and was taking college courses once he was seventeen.
With his father?s blessing at the age of eighteen he applied to Starfleet Academy and was easily accepted into the Engineering. There he found that Starfleet?s supposed policy of ?acceptance? wasn?t all that it was cracked up to be- despite the fact that he spoke English fluently, he often would use words out of both the Caadinain and Welsh languages to express words that he felt were not accurately represented in English. And despite the large concentration of other alien species, he was one of only three Caadinain in his year, and the only one with a Welsh accent. You would think that he would fit in better because he spoke English, but because the other Caadinain used Universal Translators, their accent all but disappeared. And his odd Welsh accent stuck out like a sore thumb.
He learned to keep to himself, and easily passed his core courses, while taking additional lessons in piloting and the occasional medical course to honor the memory of his mother. His tendency to blurt out the wrong thing quickly lent itself to giving bullies a reason to beat him up, but he was able to hold his own- usually. He was glad when he was finally done with his studies at the academy and was transferred to his first ship, the USS Robin Goodfellow, under the rank of ensign. He quickly moved up the ranks- not through people skills, but through sheer determination, loyalty, and brilliance in the engineering field.
When the ship was retired, he was transferred to the USS Oberon-B at the age of 24, as the Assistant Chief Engineering officer under the rank of Lieutenant JG. He did his best there, often serving as the Chief when the real chief, a Klingon by the name of Kwan was off-ship. he was transferred to the USS Lancelot as the Chief Engineering Officer at the age of 27. He was promoted to Lieutenant. When that ship was damaged and he was given the choice to wait for it to be repaired, he chose to simply be transferred to a new ship, the USS Pytheas under the rank of Lieutenant. When that ship finally was damaged, he was transferred to the USS Leviathan.
Appearance:
Maddox is of middling height and lanky, with medium-length red hair in layers. He looks more or less human, but his eyes are a color not usually seen in nature- a deep purple, shot through with red streaks. His skin is also an unusual color- an ashy grey. His fingers have an extra joint to them and are double jointed, giving him excellent dexterity in the engineering field.
